Name Tag Enhancements

Feature Friday

Hi! Today, I'm going to cover some new features that have been added to name tags. To get started with name tags, click on the gear icon in the top menu and and select name tag layouts if you want to create a custom layout. This enables you to design the type of labels you have given the paper size and different margins and gap settings. We do support a few different common Avery types where you don't have to use this, but this enables you to define a custom layout. The other option was name tags. Now, we're calling these name tag templates. This gets you started with an initial design you can use in multiple events. If I click on "Name Tag Templates" you can see I have one available called "Test" and if I click on it I can see the name tag I designed. In terms of fields you can merge in for the name tag, we offer a formatted name which I'll show some additional features related to that in a second. By default, formatted name is just the first name space last name or you can pull on the first name and last name individually. You can also add a variable for data that you know will be in an attendee field onto the template as well, but you would have to manually type it in.

Once you have your template ready and you want to use it on an event, go into your event, click on "Features", and click on "Name tags". You'll see we need to choose a name tag template to use with this event. I'm going to choose the template that I just set up. This will be the name tag used for this event. I can edit the name tag again and make changes to this name tag while my template will stay the same. We're working on a copy of the name tag for this event and because of that we can click on merge fields and see all the attendee fields that are on this event and we can include any of them on the name tag. You can see class year is here, so it will fill in this class year.

If I go back to the name tags for this event, you'll also see this additional feature that allows you to edit the "Formatted Name". If I click on this, it will allow you to design a custom formatted name. Right now, it just defaults to the first name, space, last name, but I can add customizations to this. I'm going to add, let's say the first name and then add the last name. After that, I want to add the class year. You can also set fields to appear conditionally. By default, each field always appears, but I can only show the class year field if they're an alum. We can also move the class year between the first name and last name. You can also add some static text that will appear. If you wanted to do something like this and put it after the class year, you could do something like this. But, this is just designing what you want that formatted name to appear as. I'm going to go ahead and leave it as the default for now and return to the name tags.

The next enhancement we have is the ability to narrow the attendee list by the first letter of the registrant's last name. This should make printing easier to do. For example, I could just choose the A's, reload the list and those are the only individuals that will be printed. Or, I could set a range of A to F and get that range printed and then I could print a range of G to M. This should make printing the list more manageable. To print these selected records, you can see this is set to save as a PDF but if I want a printer I can choose this one printer or whatever printer you have connected. Unfortunately mine's black and white so it won't have color, but I can then print it at that point.

Those are the new features added to name tags. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact support. Thanks!
